Shaking Donkey Tails and Elephant Trunks

Well, wouldn’t you know it, the Republicans budged and the Democrats didn’t. How’s that for a change of pace. Though, I think in the end, both sides had to move on issues, and I can honestly say that I think a real bipartisan effort was made in an attempt to not have to shut down the government.

I think president Obama said it quite well when he said that they were able to make “a debate about spending cuts, not social issues like women health, and the protection of our air and water.” That was the whole key point of my previous post, “The War on “US”.

The new budget includes some drastic cuts on some programs, but I think overall, it’s a decent proposal. There’s not much you can do when you have to cut funding somewhere, something has to give. It is unfortunate that we’re in that kind of situation in the first place, but hopefully we won’t be for long. I know if president Obama manages to do what he envisions, this country will be standing strong, independent, and better than ever before. I truly do believe that because he speaks of the country I wish to see.

And for those who think (for whatever reason) he’s out to destroy us, I just imagine that you must not understand that the world today is nothing like it was even 20 years ago. The United States is falling behind, new economies are trying very hard to surpass the U.S. and lead the world in industries, and yet we sit idle as if there is no danger. The truth is, we need to rebuild our country from the inside, become energy independent, fix our health care, our education system and learn that living within our means doesn’t equate to being poor, but to being bigger, better and more efficient than ever before. We have all of the capabilities right here within our grasp. Right here in America, we just have to build the political will to use it. Yes, change can be scary, but in this case, not changing will cost us far more.
