Dear Beyonce and Lady Gaga

You were both fucked over on the Album of the Year award. I don’t know who the hell is rating the winners, but there is no way that should have gone to Tyler Swift.

It’s clear the Grammy’s are a bunch of bullshit. I am sorry you were jipped, you both deserved it more than the one who got.

That is all.

National Wildlife Federation’s short clip

I just thought this was a good little clip from the NWF, so I wanted to share it.

Some Turbines For The Northern Wind Factory

There’s some good news out there, amidst all of the questionable mumble jumble lately. It’s specifically good news for Michigan, and those in the Northern area even more so! Benzie county, rated one of the best spots in the state for Wind Power, has just redone wind ordinances to help support the building of Wind Turbines.
There was a report released not too long ago that listed the hot spots for wind potential across the state, Benzie County being listed as one of the best.

According to a post by Shauna Fite, from the Michigan Land Use Institute, “The report said Benzie County could accommodate at least 435 turbines producing 652 MW of instantaneous energy on a windy day—the output of a large-sized coal-fired power plant—or as many as 778 turbines producing 1,167 MW—as much as the very largest coal plants. If the wind blows just 20 percent of the time, the county would produce between 1.1 million and 2 million MWh of energy a year. At 12 cents a kWh, today’s going rate for wind power, that would add up to between $132 million and $240 million worth of electricity per year.” (more…)

The Dirty Air Act?

I cannot believe some of the stuff that comes about from Washington at times. It is astonishing to think someone would attempt to prevent the EPA from trying to lower the amount of poison that spews out of coal plants, etc., which harm human life. It’s a pretty well known fact that oil and coal burning in particular are terrible, not only to our environment, but to us, as human beings.

Yet, here we have a Senator from Alaska, Senator Murkowski, pushing to make it so that the EPA cannot do its job according to the clean air act. Should Senator Murkowski’s dirty air act pass, it would completely bar the EPA from using the Clean Air Act to protect human health. It is ludicrous and everyone should be outraged.

Brrrr, it’s cold out there

Yes, it is cold outside and maybe even for you, unusually cold. I know, what a concept with all of this talk about global warming, right? Well, really, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the cold weather has nothing to do with global warming. And one other thing, since I am on the topic, the real term should be global climatic disruptions, but who wants to say that?

Anyway, I am not writing to debate the weather or the climate, just to simply state, gosh dang, gee golly, it is flipping cold outside. We’ve gotten a bit of snow off and on this year. We had several feet from a blizzard that passed through and then most of it melted shortly after that, but then another blizzard came on through and made sure that it stayed a winter wonderland.

What’s really funny is watching my cute little dogs try to walk through 2-3 feet deep snow. They are chaweenies, so they are only about 8 inches tall, maybe a foot on the top of their head. They somehow manage though.

Pope for protecting our planet!

I’m not a super religious person. I have my own beliefs, of course, and consider myself to be quite spiritual, but I lost faith in organized religion awhile ago. I’m definitely not Catholic, but I do consider it good when the Pope is fighting for the same cause as me.

In this particular issue, I agree with what the Pope has to say. It is in regards to climate change and the failure to address it as it needed to be in Copenhagen. He basically says that it is up to people to protect God’s creation. He also says something along the lines of, to promote peace, we must protect creation. (more…)

Now that that’s done and such

Now that the holiday Rush is over, I can get back to the old blogging for fun and joy, and perhaps, even contemplating some real life scenarios, just like I had been doing. I got caught up in all the holiday fun, just as I Am sure many other people did, but now that it is over, the new year brings a lot to look at.

There’s news of a new coal plant being built in Michigan now, which is ridiculous. The people supporting it are touting how great of an investment it is, 2 billion dollars that will create 100 jobs.

Really? 100 jobs out of a 2 billion dollar investment? Do they not realize how many jobs that could have made and the position that money could have helped put the faulting economy of Michigan in? We’re looking at a global demand for renewable energy solutions and instead, the great powers that be open up another coal plant, buying parts from other states, purchasing coal from other states, and from what I understand, most of the jobs created will be in other states.

Michigan has the worst economy and last I heard, the highest rate of unemployment out of any state in the US, so to be making moves that limit the local economy, prohibit the potential job growth through clean energy and will cost people a lot of money just doesn’t seem very smart to me.

Then of course, there’s the sad truth of Copenhagen, but it’s not really a surprise. Once the United States sat on climate and energy legislation, it was pretty clear that the US was not going to be able to bargain with much. Hopefully this year will be prosperous, but I know, dealing with the oil and coal industries millions upon millions of dollars to feed misinformation to the public is going to take hold and we’ll be fighting harder than ever before it’s all done and over with.

Snow!

There is snow on the ground and it is not melting. I guess that is to be expected being in Northern Michigan. I still prefer the warm weather, but it is beautiful to see all of the snow clinging to tree branches and gently falling from the sky.

It was quite peaceful, to be honest. Just sitting back, relaxing and taking in a deep breath. It brings a whole new meaning to silent night. Or maybe that is what it meant all along.

Copenhagen can help Repower America

During the meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, we can hope that the world leaders come to some form of agreement, which will lead to drastic cuts on GHG emissions. With the framework in place, it will give the United States ample reasoning to move forward with the green economy, featuring truly clean and renewable energy sources.

With the help of Repower America, and their amazing “Repower Wall,” which recently hit over 25,000 videos and messages from Americans all across the nation, ranging from small business, to doctors, to faith leaders, corporations and everything in between, we’re starting to show the leaders in the United States we support bold action on clean energy and climate solutions. If you haven’t added your voice to the Wall yet, I suggest you do so – there is nothing more powerful than thousands of voices joining together as one. Sound Familiar? It should, President Obama said something similar, and it’s true.

We have the will, we have the way, we just need to make sure our leaders vote the right way.
